The NOBTS Family: Putting Hands and Feet to the Gospel
From SBC Life.....

Nearly seven hundred volunteers from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary marked the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina by putting hands and feet to the Gospel at twenty-eight sites throughout New Orleans on August 29.

Subjects like pastoral ministry, missions, and evangelism were not taught in the classroom on this day, but in the city. Real-world training took place in hard-hit areas like the Ninth Ward, St. Bernard Parish, and the seminary's own Gentilly neighborhood. The volunteers' work was a message of love, hope, and God's grace — a hug for the hurting city

NOBTS is committed to the city of New Orleans. It is encouraging to see so much "hands on" ministry taking place through seminary training. Getting out of the classroom and into the city is what ministry is all about. May we in every church learn this also. We need to "get in to the city" and fulfill the Great Commission!

GOOD BYE TO A GOOD FRIEND

Ten years ago our daughter, then fourteen, came home with a puppy. She had a little part time job with a breeder of exotic birds who gave her the puppy. He was a black Labrador Retriever. We named him Spookey Bear.

All of our friends warned us about Labs. We were told they chewed up everything in sight and made huge messes. But Spookey Bear didn’t do any of that. In fact, in the previous ten years we only remember him chewing up one shoe. He did that because we left him one day for an extended period of time and that was his way of getting even!

For ten years Spookey Bear proved his loyalty and love. We used to live in a house with a split rail fence surrounding the back yard. Every time we came home Spookey Bear would stick his head through the fence, wag his tail fiercely, and whine for a loving pat. It never mattered what the weather was, he was always there.

As he began to age he became and “inside dog.” Spookey Bear made a good pillow to lie on to watch TV. He always behaved while we were at the dinner table. He walked with care through the house. He never messed anything up. But age took its toll.

Today, Spookey Bear was laid to rest. He will be greatly missed. But he taught us many lessons that humanity could follow. No matter what kind of day it had been, he always greeted everyone happily. He was always loyal, faithful to the end. May we all strive to be as loving, loyal, and faithful to those we love and who love us!

Hits Counter

We apologize for the inaccuracy of the hit counter at the bottom of the page. We "lost" 600 hits last night and this happens every time a new month rolls over. We should be well over 3000 hits by now. I have repeatedly contacted the provider for the counter with no success. I am going to make the counter invisible for now until the matter can be resolved.

Thanks for all the support.
